CLINICAL HEMATOLOGY
Lectures: Hematology and Hemostasis
Lab Rotations: Hematology (10 weeks)
This course is designed to provide knowledge and skills in order to:
- Provide a comprehensive study of normal and abnormal hematology and relate this to lab tests with emphasis on their clinical significance.
- Process and evaluate  Wright’s stained smears of peripheral blood, bone marrow and body fluids, differentiating and identifying the cells, cellular inclusions, and some microorganisms, and recognize the need for pathologist assistance in identification of some abnormal cells.
- Provide an overview of hemostasis, allowing the student to comprehend and apply their knowledge in the Coagulation area.
- Provide knowledge of hematology, coagulation, and flow cytometry and an understanding of the test principles and equipment used in the area.
- Process hematology and coagulation specimens suitable for testing, perform instrumentation maintenance, and quality control.
